The journey in the program of Digital Learning and Leadership has been very exciting!
It started with the Growth Mindset. Since I read the book and watched the videos, I started using the language and I have seen a huge impact in myself and around me. I have several examples but this is the latest one. I have a student that was not very motivated to do homework. We have had conversations about the importance of learning, trying his best to improve, and doing his homework. I have seen how he is more motivated to do his homework and work in the class. I always tell him how proud I am because he is showing me that he wants to improve and learn. I called his mom this past Friday to praise his recent hard work, and she told me that she was surprised because his siblings were always inviting him to play instead of doing homework and he was choosing to stay to finish his homework first. This was a very emotional moment for me! The growth mindset is setting my students free because the improvement and the hard work is what matters.
When I had to make my presentation for the Growth Mindset, I wanted to learn something new. I tried Piktochart and it was a great experience. I loved how you can have your presentations online. It gives you different shapes, lines, photos, backgrounds, and other tools to make your presentation appealing and with a professional look. I had Meet the Teacher on those days and I used it for the presentation with the parents too. I enjoyed seeing how it looked different, and I felt like I was in a board meeting.
Then, we had to create our Learning Manifesto. It was interesting to look inside of myself and reflect on what I believe about education. I know I will have to create a real world solution, and the learning manifesto was a good starting point to start seeing where I think there are problems that need to be solved.
After this, we joined the Learning Networks. This has been so important for me as a teacher and a future digital leader. I regret not knowing about this before because I really believe this networks make you a better teacher. They show you the best practices for coaching the learning, tools, data, etc.
Finally, we learned about COVA and the ePortfolios. It has been a great learning experience to feel that I can have choice, ownership, voice and that my ePortfolio is authentic. I have enjoyed the process. At the beginning, I was very stressed because I did not know how to start the ePortfolio. I appreciated that the professors gave us different examples so I got an idea of what platform to use and how to structure it. The feedback from my professor and classmates about my ePortfolio was very useful because they gave me the audience perspective and that helped me to make changes to improve it. I am very proud of my ePortfolio! I know I will have to improve it when I learn more, but I am very proud because it is mine!
